Ask Stephanie
![]() John asks:Stephanie, I have only completed Lesson 1, so perhaps these questions are premature, but...do we synchronize breathing with any movements other than the first lifting of the arms? And do we think of each "number" as a separate movement, or do we eventually smooth things out? Stephanie answers:Hi John, It's important for you to take 2-3 deep breaths, preferably with your eyes closed before you begin your first arm movements. This will initiate the relaxation response and after awhile you'll be breathing more diaphramatically in a natural way. As a beginner student you don't need to concentrate on the breathe as you do the movements.
And yes, each "number" is a separate movement with a pause inbetween. This is how we teach the square form so you have a total understanding where each body part is placed without wasting energy.
